Life stylist, wardrobe advisor, personal shopper...

As a child I had a very specific idea about how I wanted to look. I was more than happy to spend time looking at clothes and accessories to determine how I would present myself to the world for any given occasion. My mother on the other hand, even though she was quite stylish, didn’t share my enthusiasm at all. As you might surmise, this led to many screaming matches and full out on the floor tantrums, from both sides. As I grew into my teens I discovered the freedom of a job, my parents agreed to match whatever money I made so that I could go to the mall and buy my back to school wardrobe every year. I always knew how to stretch that money out and get as much bang for my buck as possible. My mother was amazed at how thrifty and resourceful I was at getting exactly what I wanted. For senior prom I spent $45 on my whole outfit by scouring vintage clothing shops and thrift stores, while my peers spent on average $200. I wore a one of a kind black velvet gown from the 1930’s.  No one else had my dress or anything even remotely like it. Soon my friends noticed this as well and started bringing me along on shopping trips. This has continued for the last 30 years.

I discovered a love of hair and make-up so I went to beauty school. I’ve been a hair stylist for 30 years. I’ve spent those years managing salons, owning salons, establishing education programs in salons, being an educator for Paul Mitchell Systems in other salons, and designing hair and wigs for the Hippodrome Theater for 16 years.

I also have a love of sewing and costume design. I learned to sew when I was pregnant with my daughter 27 years ago. The options for maternity fashions at the time were what I lovingly refer to as "teddy bears and hearts" fashion.  Not exactly in my wheelhouse as far as personal style is concerned. So I asked my Mom for her sewing machine, bought a pattern and made myself a whole maternity wardrobe that was affordable and expressed my personality. Not a bear, heart, bow or sailor collar in sight. Costume design has been in my blood since I was little. I get very obsessed with the small details of a look. I make my friends nuts with my obsession over those small details. This very thing led to my designs being in a play called Elvis People that had its world premier here in Gainesville at the Phillips Center for Performing Arts, then later opening off-Broadway in NYC.

There are a lot of people out there, men as well as women, who simply don’t know how to navigate the retail clothing arena. As a result they get stuck in the same boring, drab, dull looks over and over again. This is considered “safe” by many, I consider it uninspired. Let me inspire you.
